I saw this article about which New Year's Resolutions were the most popular for 2010 and interestingly enough money was not in the list. What was on the list is enjoy life more. The joy of life doesn't exist for so many Americans. They work and then sit on the couch year after year and wonder why their life is so empty. Most Americans live for the weekends so they can finally get to do what they enjoy most but unfortunately by the time the weekend rolls around home maintenance, family obligations and exhaustion have robbed them of their joy and then the cycle repeats.
In the book by Elizabeth Gilbert, "Eat Love Pray," Elizabeth was willing to explore the possibility that finding your joy of living involves going outside of your comfort zone. She packed her bags and went to Italy and ate her way back to joy. I wouldn't recommend eating your way across Europe, otherwise getting fit and loosing weight will be on your list for next years resolutions.
Finding your joy or zest for life can be complicated by depression, lack of energy and direction. When our minds are exhausted, we can't think clearly and ultimately we are unable to appreciate what we do have. How do we begin to experience more joy-- by making more time for new experience. Schedule activities that feature "me'isms". Me'isms are activities that involve bringing more joyous, adventurous, outrageous, mind-blowing activities into our lives. These activities have to transport us beyond are definitions of who we are and who our friends believe we are. Along the way you may learn something new which featured on the list as well. Break the rules society, family and friends have made for you and free yourself and your mind from the bondage of complacency. We weren't meant to be compliant, settled, and docile. The meek will inherent the earth not the sheep so stop acting like livestock. Stop milling about in the pastures of life content to graze in some else's pastures because Despite popular dogmaand new agey thinking all we have is today so don't waste another moment of the most precious commodity of all--Time!
