Give 2010 a clear intent and make a mission statement. A mission statement is a statement of intent in this case for the year. I also like the use of the term motto. How do you want your year to progress for 2010? What do you want to focus on this year? A mission statement is different from the pie theory which is to divide your life into so many quadrant and then make a goal for each segment which includes, family, health, career, etc. A mission statement is a general statement as to the intent for the year and is personal and requires time to decide if you want to bring more joy into your life, or more adventure, perhaps you want to have more fun this year or experiment with trying new experiences. A personal mission statement can be fun and can make all the difference in a great new year.
Set aside some time and think about what you would like to have more of in the new year. Write it down on an index card and carry it with you and put on your calendar. Refer to your mission statement often to remind yourself what you want to experience more of in the new year. You'll find yourself making choices that support your desire to be congruent with your mission statement.
I interviewed Michelle Rigg of Ideal Outcomes and we discussed core values and how these values underline every decision we make. Well it wasn't the first time that I had heard of core values, I had first been introduced to them through my academics and mainly in the context of numerous personality tests. I hadn't taken stock of my core values in a while. During the interview Michelle mentioned that she re-assesses her core values every six months which means that core values aren't set in stone they can change in order of importance depending on life. I began to re-assess my own core values again and find the things I consider most important must be in harmony with my life path. Re-assessing your core values can be time consuming but well worth the effort and investment of time.
Here is a partial list of core values to get you started. The list is in no particular order: respect, joy, family, wealth, career, trust, integrity, status, praise, abundance, purpose, creativity, individuality, control, freedom, safety, security, loyalty, communication, personal space, honor, dignity, adventure, prestige, culture, time, health, autonomy.
Now that we are shedding the old year and moving into the skin of a new year, understanding our core values can assist us in achieving our goals i.e. New Year's Resolutions in 2010. The new year is always full of hope and promise. I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Some of the wealthiest people on the planet have made their billions by having fun. They would do whatever they do if there was no salary involved. How many of us can make that statement? Unfortunately, the statistics aren't in favor of most Americans. I once saw an interview with a woman who said she doesn't smile anymore at work because other co-workers complained that she wasn't working hard enough even though she was the best in her department year after year. Winners enjoy what they do; in fact, the love the challenge of their work. No one should have to frown at work or in their profession because others aren't in the jobs that make them feel most fulfilled.
I found this video of an experiment on the effects of making something fun. Would people be persuaded to take the stairs over the escalator if the stairs were more fun. Think of the implications that would make to the exercise industry.
I didn't know there was a long history of pardoning the annual White House turkey dubbed courage. I hope that tomorrow will be a blessed day of true Thanksgiving for you. On Adrenaline Living Talk Show today in the archives listed above, my guest Lisa Haisha talked about children and how to best serve them by providing them with the psychological tools to heal their lives so they can survive whatever the circumstances they must endure. Be Well!
I recently interviewed Nik Halik of thrillionaires website and his experience with a bucket list are extra-ordinary as are the people I interview on my radio show. He started his list when he was eight and has accomplished nearly all his goals by 40 with the exception of walking on the moon and living in outer space in a space station which he says should take about twelve to eighteen months. So what makes people like Nik and others of his elk different from those people who don't live their goals. Well for one mindset, and this is the biggest stumbling block to anyone becoming successful. You may read all the books and quote the best of the best self-help gurus in the industry but is your life what you want it to be. I'm guessing if you were lulled into reading this article maybe not.
I recently heard that the subconscious mind is influenced by writing things down and that includes your bucket list so don't type your bucket list; write it down. When you write your list and if there are any number on the list write those numbers out as well. Let your subconscious mind work in harmony with those things you desire. If you don't have a bucket list, get busy and make one. A bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die.
Most of the people living life with passion and gusto say that the top reasons most people don't live their dreams are because of mindset, money and a lack of support. Many of the people I've interviewed have had at least one or two of these thing in their favor. If you would like to hear the interview you can go to the Adrenaline Living archives and listen to the archives of our interview; It was truly inspiring as is Nik's list.
Here is Nik's bucket list:
1. Become a rock-star
2. Become a millionaire
3. Run with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain (adrenaline article is coming on this one)
4. Become a mountain climber and summit the highest peaks
5. Deep sea explore and have lunch on the Titanic
6. Own exotic private homes around the world
7. Become an astronaut
8. Explore and travel over 100 countries
9. Rocket to outer space and reside on the space station
10. Set foot on the lunar surface of the moon
Find a quiet place and remember all the things you wanted to do and just list them. See how many of those things you can accomplish this year. The list can have big and small items just make sure they stretch you. Make sure your list is hand written and keep the list on your person. Nik said he personally reviews his goals at least twice a day. Be inspiring. Take Action. Fall in love with life for the first time or all over again. Discover your passionate self again.
I didn't realize that the first female, Major Jennifer Grieves, to pilot Marine One which is the president private helicopter began her new duties with President OBama's administration.
You can see the pride Major Grieves feels in having accomplished so much so early in her career. If this doesn't inspire you to pursue your dreams, I don't know what will.
Willard Wigan's sculptures are the smallest in the world and can fit on a pin head and eye of a needle. This is what can be done when you remove the word "impossible" from your vocabulary.
I watched the news about the death of Michael Jackson and saw thousands of people and his family at the Staples Center morn him. Michael Jackson was a great talent and we will never see the unique expression of his genius again. While I was watching his daughter's tears flow as she proclaimed him the best father ever, I realized I would never have the opportunity to see Michael Jackson perform live. I will never be able to catch a glimpse of him in a crowd- those opportunities are lost forever. The thought of all the opportunities that I've lost began to overwhelm me... How many opportunities have you lost? Opportunities that may never present themselves again. Opportunities that death has removed.
I believe that we have opportunities afforded us each and every day but each missed opportunity is not promised to us a second time nor is it promised to us in the exact same way it was intended originally. The there-will-always-be-a-tomorrow mentality is dangerous. If we are devoted to our purpose, we will leave a legacy for our world. A legacy of promise that says, we took advantage of "all" the opportunities presented and made.
The thing about having this website and talking to so many wonderful women is that you realize that fear is natural. Everyone feels the fear but Divas act in-spite of their fears; in fact, the become lionesses in the face of impossible odds. They climb mountains, open unconventional businesses in foreign countries. The beauty about being a Diva is being an awesome audacious force to be reckoned with. Embody your inner Diva--allow her to imbibe you with her fire and passion for living. No self-respecting Diva would ever let anyone tell her she can't do this or that; she simply does it and that's that. The cost of not being authentic to yourself is far more expensive that acting in-spite of your fears. The cost can show up in the form of bad relationships, negative self-esteem issues or even worse poor health.
I'm not going to get into why you should act because it isn't as relevant. ACT! ACT NOW! ACT OFTEN! When you want something, do not hesitate i.e procrastinate. Procrastination is slow suicide. Begin to take action on a major scale. When you are known as the girl that does less speaking and more action, others will begin to take you seriously and unseen forces will come to your aid.
I love the attitudes of movers and shakers. They wonder how. They never muse over whether or not their parents, loved ones, children will think. They simply honor the impulse to act on an idea and they move with surety and distinction until their ideals come to fruition-- no matter what the obstacles. Some of the women I have interviewed have had horrendous obstacles to overcome. Victory was not a street paved in gold for them but they persevered and kept going even though they were scared. A Diva will feel the fear but the courage of the lioness will rise up in her bones and press her to the battle fields for another season of war. When we see the fields of Elysian after the war, it's easy to believe these peaceful looking pastures have never seen war or lean seasons... no planting, followedd by a season of watching and waiting, and then followedd by a season of growth again which might alternate between growth and a season of watching and waiting again. Success is not for the timid or the weak. Success is for the warrior so strap on your breast plates and vow with all your might and being to be FEARLESS or else.
If you are in a rut begin by altering the norm in your life. When we are stuck it is because we haven't been brave enough to experience new experiences. What new adventures can you participate in? Start by searching on the internet for a new adventure and then make the commitment by calling these businesses. Make an appointment. Go ballooning. Go mountain climbing. Go race car driving. Go. Go. Go. In the words of one of my favorite characters in literature Auntie Mame, "Live, live, live! Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death." Be willing to explore new territory. You are like the "Astronaut" of your world. Explore your world with passion, one new experience at a time. And in the words of Auntie Mame, "I will open doors that you never knew existed before." When we are willing to take a leap in a new direction, we step out on faith and expose ourselves to new experiences and these new experiences will always and beautifully enhance our lives and businesses.
Make a commitment this month to try one new amazing adventure. Plan the event. Schedule the time on your calendar, blackberry, computer, etc and then move to ACTION!
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them They think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.
I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes And the flash of my teeth, The swing of my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.
Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can't touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them, They say they still can't see. I say It's in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.
Now you understand Just why my head's not bowed. I don't shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing It ought to make you proud. I say, It's in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, The palm of my hand, The need of my care, 'Cause I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me.
